Tip received 1/20/26: I wanted to bring this to your attention: A student at Upper Arlington High School is organizing an Anti-ICE protest to take place during school hours. From what I understand of the district's Students' Rights and Responsibilities Handbook and code of conduct, organized demonstrations or activities that disrupt regular school operations or attendance during instructional time are not permitted.I strongly support students' First Amendment rights to express their views on important issues like immigration policy.
However, school is primarily a place for education, and disruptions during the school day can affect all students' learning environment — regardless of the cause.Students have many appropriate ways to advocate, such as after-school events, approved club activities, off-campus gatherings, or submitting petitions through official channels.I hope the school can address this proactively with the student, perhaps by discussing alternative ways to make their voice heard without violating policy.(If relevant & you're comfortable: Note that the student is the child of district teachers — this might warrant extra care to ensure consistent application of rules.)
I encourage you to email the Principal and the Board of Education and tell them how you feel.

TIP RECEIVED 12-4-22: Parents of middle school students in the Upper Arlington Schools in Ohio reported to Libs of TikTok that a “non-binary” youth librarian’s presentation to sixth-grade students involved asking them whether they might be of a different gender and whether they feel safe discussing these thoughts at home. Kindergarten teachers in Windermere Elementary are reading a group of books that are inappropriate. The teachers were reading them aloud. The parents were not informed.

My children are in the Upper Arlington school district. Their elementary is doing a March madness with books and the theme is “turning points.” All of the books are agenda driven, all but one book has girl main characters, they talk about kneeling for change and the most controversial one talks about the first lesbian representative elected to congress. She uses the word lesbian in the book and these are being read and discussed with K-5. I don’t feel it’s the schools job to teach my children what lesbian means. That is a conversation for home. Also we accidentally received a copy of the list as it was not sent home for parents to view. We were told that teachers can’t possibly send home everything. I have attached the book list.
Critical Race Theory is in Upper Arlington Schools. They have hired a diversity consultant. Comprehensive Sex Education is likely in the Upper Arlington School District.
