Milton Union Exempted Village

Social Emotional Learning is in Milton Union School District
Regarding a parent meeting with Milton Union Schools: Ms. Milikin (SEL advisor) told me they did not use surveys. We did request the contract between her and Montgomery County Educational Services(her place of employment) and West Milton. Have not seen that as of yet. Ms. Milikin showed us a slide show for about 30 minutes on the upstairs brain and downstairs brain for kids. She mentioned CASEL, National Council, NME (child trauma.org), Trauma Informed School, Dr. Perrys's Framework and a Tier 1 Strategy. She pushed the question that she advises the teachers and herself to ask the children. They are not to ask what is wrong with you but what happened to you? She said this is to regulate-relate-reason. The Superintendent Dr. Ritchey said they are not implementing SEL into the curriculum as of yet only using on a as needed basis. Indicating that when children misbehave then they implement it on them but not all children. They indicated they would let us know if and when they fully implement. Did not leave the meeting very happy a few of us felt we were handled. The meeting lasted longer then they expected felt they just wanted to end it. One parent that was there could not understand why we were asking so many questions about a program that was just teaching the children to be nice to one another and to use their brains in a kind manner. They definitely talked up the program as a great program to excel the childrens learning abilities
