The Highland School District in Medina has just hired a new Communications Director named Kelli Crawford-Smith. Kelli Crawford-Smith has worked for the City of Cuyahoga Falls as the Director of Neighborhood Excellence, Communications, and Community Outreach. This position was created under the Walters administration. She is a big believer in pronouns. She signs all her emails with she/her. There was brief period where she stopped, allegedly she was asked to stop but I cannot confirm this, but she has begun doing this again. This has been going on for a couple of years at least. Recently a charity event for the Fire Department was held. The event entailed teams pulling a fire truck to see who was the fastest. One of our members of IAFF Local 494 was present wearing a shirt that had the word "Brotherhood" displayed. Brotherhood is a term widely used in the fire service for a very long time that simply distinguishes the special bond between individuals within the fire service. Kelli Crawford-Smith approached this member and stated that the shirt was "offensive" because it excluded women. She went on to harass the member by stating her job was to protect us (fire fighters) when we get in trouble with the law. It was a very inappropriate interaction to say the least and certainly not accurate on many fronts. Regardless, her new position places her very close to malleable minds. My concern is she could begin to promote/introduce woke ideologies such as gender identity politics, sexist policies, and other new age liberal movements to young minds. I'm not exactly sure what can be done but I think the residents in the Highland School District might wish to know the truth about someone who will essentially be the mouthpiece for their district.
